Shorten a door frame and lay laminate under the door frame

Shortening a door frame
If a new floor covering is laid, it can either be cut out precisely around the frame, which requires considerable effort. Alternatively, the door case can be quickly and easily shortened by the floor covering thickness. This application example shows you how to shorten a door frame with the VECTURO oscillator.

    Description

When laying pre-finished parquet or laminate, a common problem is that the floor is then raised up beyond the door case. Therefore, the parquet or laminate cannot be laid tidily. Festool's VECTURO oscillator can be used to shorten the door case by the material thickness. The floor covering can then be placed underneath. The exact procedure for shortening door frames is explained in this application example. Festool's VECTURO oscillator is recommended for this work. The special sawing movement enables plunge cuts to be made in almost any material in places that are difficult to access. In order to protect the saw blade and not damage the masonry, it is also advisable to use the depth stop.

    Preparation/set-up

    • Before making any adjustments to the machine, the battery pack must be removed to prevent an accidental switch-on.

    • First, the appropriate blade is fitted so that the door frame can be precisely sawn. In our case, a saw blade with a width of 55 mm.

    • The depth stop is then attached to the machine and
brought to the correct position according to the saw blade.

    Procedure

    • With the help of a floorboard from the floor covering to be laid, the frame is shortened to the appropriate length. To do this, the saw blade is placed on the section and plunged into the door case with a little pressure. During cutting, the slightly inclined guidance of the machine improves the removal of sawing chips.

    • After being shortened, the floor covering can be professionally laid under the door frame. The result is a visually perfect finish.
